Day 5- Selwyn to Christchurch
They’re close enough to visit just for the day but for a true alpine experience and a truly memorable family winter escape try spending a night or two in Castle Hill. There’s plenty of choice with the quaint alpine village is only a stone’s throw from Porters, Mt Cheeseman, Broken River and Craigieburn. Accommodation consists of private holiday homes which are available on short and long term basis and allow you to explore the area at your own pace. There’s also a B&B and Flock Hill Station close by which offers a range of accommodation and dining options along with a large open fire to enjoy a drink around.
Both Porters and Cheeseman have outstanding rental and training services along with excellent cafes. If you’re not too keen on driving the alpine roads Porters offer a free shuttle service up the mountain and on mountain accommodation is available at both.
If you wish to take a day off and explore the area the surrounding landscape is awe inspiring. Nestled between the Craigieburn and Torlesse ranges the area is also well known for its unique limestone rock formations and limestone caves. Arthurs Pass National Park is also close by and accessible via a short and spectacular winter drive.
