Only a stone’s throw from Christchurch it is home to 5 fantastic ski fields and the CHILL experience. The Licence to CHILL is a multi-mountain ski pass that allows you to ski all 5 mountains on the Great Alpine Highway along with Mt Olympus and 5 other unique ski areas in the South Island. Whether you’re a first-timer, experienced powder hound, or family with mixed abilities there’s something for all on the Licence to CHILL. The CHILL pass was created in the alpine village of Castle Hill and this is the home of the CHILL experience and limitless alpine exploration.
The CHILL Pass allows you to explore at your leisure and the freedom to pick your mountain based on conditions so it’s best you have your own vehicle. There’s a great selection of accommodation in the region ranging from hotel/motel accommodation in Springfield, holiday homes for long and short term rent in Castle Hill, back packer and motel unit at Flock Hill and on-mountain accommodation at each of the 6 Selwyn Ski Areas.
School holidays are always busy so book in advance to avoid missing out. If you’re looking to take a break from skiing for a day the area is rich in natural resources including the limestone caves of Cave Stream, Arthurs Pass National Park and world renowned bouldering mecca, Castle Hill. Of course all skiing trips in the area are not complete without a pie from the Famous Sheffield Pie Shop located on the way to the mountains from Christchurch (SH 73).
